Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo is championing “the quarter hour city,” where Parisians can get everything they need within 15 minutes. It means rethinking a LOT, even in a city like #Paris, including street design. Watch this via Paris en Commun Pr Carlos Moreno | IAE-Paris Sorbonne

“Lithuania’s capital, Vilnius, has announced plans to turn the city into a vast open-air cafe by giving over much of its public space to hard-hit bar & restaurant owners so they can put their tables outdoors & still observe #physicaldistancing rules.” theguardian.com/world/2020/apr…

Wheat sheaf enriched railings, Palace Row and Granby Row, Parnell Square. The former are excellent mid-20th century reproductions, the latter are the real deal: erected in 1784 around the former Pleasure Gardens of the Rotunda. These are amongst the finest railings in Dublin.

The Sean MacDermott Street laundry. At the end of the central corridor is the stair leading up to the convent. As the walls are deteriorating they expose the underlying layers, revealing a lot of the history of the place.

Photographs of Dublin's social housing 2006-2009, just when many of them were getting demolished or renovated. A lot has happened since. Especially interesting for us to see the changes at Killarney Court just next to the laundry. willemheeffer.nl/projects/dubli…

Reaching the first floor of the convent there's another inscription on the wall. Faith is embedded in every inch of this building to constantly remind and foster the girls in the beliefs of the Church.

Is there no way to at least keep the structure and replace the facade etc? Agree it’s not the most beautiful building but surely there is another solution rather than complete demo + rebuild. Thinking of the way #lacatonvassal deal with existing structures

Council officials are calling on the public to help create the city’s first-ever tree map. It’s unclear how much it would have cost to get consultants to do it instead, as none would have the knowledge or access residents do, a council spokesperson said. dublininquirer.com/2020/05/13/cou…
