Senior officials in IPAS Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration consciously endangered ppl under their protection by exposing them to high risk of contracting #COVID19. They refused all transfer requests. Ppl refused with underlying medical conditions are now living in dire fear, many in new lockdown.

This is welcome news. Finally the direct provision accommodation in Miltown Malbay is to be closed. We're hopeful that Helen McEntee TD Roderic O’Gorman TD will deliver on commitments to close more of these unsuitable emergency accommodation centres. hotpress.com/culture/exclus… via Hot Press

After many months of effort by the men living in #directprovision in the Central Hostel in Miltown Malbay, as well as their allies in the town and further afield, they can now move to somewhere better. Here's the statement from the local Welcome Group medium.com/@miltown/augus…

One of the great tragedies of the situation is that the men were abandoned by 'the system' for far too long, in a town that has wonderful people living there but is entirely unsuitable as a location for vulnerable asylum seekers.

And for too long the State defended the use of the Central Hostel in Miltown Malbay as a #directprovision centre - and paid a lot of money for it.

A brave campaign from the men placed in Miltown Malbay by IPAS & branded liars by Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration. Huge credit too to local supporters. Some of the residents were previously in #CiuinHouse Carrick-on-Shannon. It has to be next. Dreadful record ongoing. #ShutItDown

Are we just pretending that #Covid_19 is over? Or just for asylum seekers?
