Milton Malbay direct provision. All DP is racist and abusive, and it all needs to end. But some centres are *really* rife with abusive behaviour from managers. This is one. Shut it down Helen McEntee TD Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration Roderic O’Gorman TD.

Two levels of safety standards during Covid-19 pandemic, 'one for the general public, where social distancing is encouraged, and another for people in residential settings such as direct provision, where sharing of intimate space is implicitly accepted.' irishtimes.com/news/social-af…

Senior officials in IPAS Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration consciously endangered ppl under their protection by exposing them to high risk of contracting #COVID19. They refused all transfer requests. Ppl refused with underlying medical conditions are now living in dire fear, many in new lockdown.

In some rooms the heater is not working. Even in the wintertime. The community provided blankets for us. Most of the time when we want to take a shower in the morning there is no hot water. #MoveThemOut Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration Helen McEntee TD Roderic O’Gorman TD

This is welcome news. Finally the direct provision accommodation in Miltown Malbay is to be closed. We're hopeful that Helen McEntee TD Roderic O’Gorman TD will deliver on commitments to close more of these unsuitable emergency accommodation centres. hotpress.com/culture/exclus… via Hot Press

After many months of effort by the men living in #directprovision in the Central Hostel in Miltown Malbay, as well as their allies in the town and further afield, they can now move to somewhere better. Here's the statement from the local Welcome Group medium.com/@miltown/augus…

One of the great tragedies of the situation is that the men were abandoned by 'the system' for far too long, in a town that has wonderful people living there but is entirely unsuitable as a location for vulnerable asylum seekers.

And for too long the State defended the use of the Central Hostel in Miltown Malbay as a #directprovision centre - and paid a lot of money for it.

A brave campaign from the men placed in Miltown Malbay by IPAS & branded liars by Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration. Huge credit too to local supporters. Some of the residents were previously in #CiuinHouse Carrick-on-Shannon. It has to be next. Dreadful record ongoing. #ShutItDown

“We are very sad to say goodbye to the men leaving Miltown Malbay, we will take comfort that these people, who came to Ireland seeking protection & safety deserve better than the treatment they endured in the Central Hostel. We thank them & admire them” clareecho.ie/department-of-…

Some of the vulnerable, traumatised #SkelligStar residents who have been repeatedly let down by Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration were today transferred to Summer Hill Ennis. 5 grown men, strangers, sharing a room. Are we just pretending that #Covid_19 is over? Or just for asylum seekers?

For 6 months Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration have been hearing it ... #DirectProvision centres are unsafe. Social distancing is impossible. 3 non-family members per room breaches guidelines. Vulnerable people are at grave risk. Never too late to act. #KeepPeopleSafe #EndDirectProvision
