@mRoussy23 and I have been looking at the current state of Tri-Council awards for grad students. It's not great. For ex, the NSERC / CRSNG PGS-D award has not changed in value since 2008. The red line is Statistics Canada's poverty line (dashed is an estimate based on inflation).
Using PicMin, I got very clear results for my ongoing project on repeated adaptation to whole genome duplication in Arabidopsis with Roswitha Schmickl. Can very much recommend!
Congratulations to Todd Vision for receiving the @ASNAmNat Presidential Award for Outstanding Service to the Community, for his role in the development of Dryad! Read more about it here: amnat.org/announcements/… #uncbiology #unc #biology #asn #award #dryad
Attn *ALL* Canadian scientists & engineers! Sign open letter to Justin Trudeau & François-Philippe Champagne (FPC) 🇨🇦 (bit.ly/3vWWDQt) asking the CDN Gov to increase NSERC / CRSNG graduate student funding to above the poverty line & #PDFs to a reasonable wage. Pls RT & spread the word!!

I just learned about Ballard and Michael Whitlock's Freshman Law of Selective Neutrality: "If it’s important enough to learn about in first-year biology, it’s probably under strong selection.” h/t Darren Irwin

I am very honored to have been invited to give a research talk within the Bengalaru Population Genetics and Evolution School this winter in Bangalore (India) among so many great names, like @sarperotto and Michael Whitlock! Many thanks to @DeepaAgashe for this kind invitation!
Excited to share some new work from my PhD with Michael Whitlock on the effects of background selection (BGS) on genetic diversity (π) and genetic differentiation, FST, in an island model.
