NSW guidelines require new coal projects to mitigate their emissions. Despite this, Glencore and Yancoal have failed to include any such measures in their plan to expand the HVO coal mine. This project would release a million tonnes of direct GHG pollution next year alone.

WA Premier Roger Cook says the images of bleached Ningaloo Reef makes him want to sell more of the state's fossil gas to Asia. Gas is a dirty polluting fossil fuel just as bad, if not worse, than coal in terms of climate impact. Cook is wilfully burying his head in the sand.

“I don’t think there was ever a state government so completely and utterly captured by the gas industry. Miners always have a big say in Western Australian but the capture is almost complete in a way now.” theguardian.com/australia-news…

The QLD LNP Government has taken the unprecedented step of cancelling a years-long independent, expert review into how the Land Court handles mining objections. Could it be that the findings, due in a few months, were not popular with the mining industry? lockthegate.org.au/qld_government…

Every time. Every damn time. The gas industry lies and screams that Australia is running out of gas and the only way to fix it is by drilling more polluting gas fields. But every time AEMO releases its GSOO, that predicted shortfall is pushed further back. reneweconomy.com.au/gas-shortage-w…

Yesterday in NT Parliament, the Territory's 2nd most powerful politician invoked Donald Trump's "drill baby drill" slogan. Gerard Maley's sad performance comes as the CLP makes sweeping changes to laws to favour multinational fracking companies. lockthegate.org.au/second_most_po…

It's just really sad that a Territorian politician is copying Donald Trump as the CLP Government rolls out the red carpet for multinational fracking companies.

Not a cent of NSW's $100 million Royalties for Rejuvenation fund - meant to support the economic diversification of coal regions - has been spent on projects. Two of the Hunter's biggest coal mines are due to close in 5 years. The government must act. lockthegate.org.au/expert_panelis…

John "Kojak" Karrasch's QLD farm is sinking due to subsidence from coal seam gas. His farm doesn't host a single well - all the damage is from drilling on surrounding properties. Now he's demanding urgent government action before it's too late. lockthegate.org.au/urgent_ministe…
