Timothy Shanahan I understand the research term is "invented spelling". With students I prefer "estimated spelling". Aligns with "estimation" in math. We actually do not want high creativity in spelling! Art, music, yes. Are you unsure about the spelling? PLEASE do your very best ESTIMATION!
