I’ve worked the dawn shift all but two of the past 10 Anzac Days and former Wollongong sub-branch president Peter Poulton has been a fixture at every one. In this crazy covid world, and with him already having a rough time, this is just such a lovely small gesture ❤️

Covering a very different Anzac Day today, starting in Mount Ousley where Craig and Yasmine played the bugle and harp, joining thousands who marked the dawn from their own driveways. Oddly, it seemed like a bigger occasion, perhaps more united, even though everyone was separate.

Regional Australian Bureau of Statistics labour force stats confirm women have borne the brunt of COVID employment impacts in the Illawarra with 6100 fewer women employed in Apr. Future job generation efforts in #wollongong will need to be mindful of this and address this labour market inequality.

Regional papers don’t exist to train metro journos - they inform, entertain & fight for their communities. So tired of hearing someone famous once worked in the regions. Let’s mourn the loss of newspapers for the people who write them, print them, sell them, read them now 🗞💔

NSW Police say even if the Supreme Court allows tomorrow’s rally, it will still be limited to 500 people and arrests/fines could be made if that number is exceeded For comparison, here’s just part of the crowd at last weekend’s Sydney 5G protest

So, let me get this right -this govt gives a big stimulus to an industry that employs mostly men & then turns round & cuts off an industry that not just employs mostly women but is indispensable for many other working women, &we’re not supposed to notice? Boys will favour boys

When Morrison announced the arts funding, he couldn’t bring himself to acknowledge that it was for violinists, actors, dancers, comedians, playwrights, or anyone else whom he suspects might have once worn a black skivvy to a university party. My column: smh.com.au/politics/feder…
