This style of #Japanese robe was known as the Yokohama robe, prized in the late #19thc for its #embroidery and style. Made for the Western market, it brought some elements of Japanese design into an exported dressing gown The Metropolitan Museum of Art #fashionhistory
Just posted some robes à la française on the Costume Society UK Instagram page, so now I'm thinking about this stunning example from the 2017 Cora Ginsburg catalogue. The dress was made in colonial America between 1760 and 1775 of 1760s French brocaded silk
A very lovely Robe à la Française from 1760–70 via The Met: Costume Institute 💗 adore the graceful simplicity of this one and the wonderfully feminine trim 🪡
Can’t wait to hear Dr Isabella Rosner speak tomorrow! 🥰
Such an incredible talk by Dr Isabella Rosner referencing school girl samplers and a 2017 Alexander McQueen dress that memorializes Alexander McQueen, who died on this day 11 years ago 💗 brilliant talk! #sartorialsociety
A Goldsmith in his Shop by Petrus Christus, 1449 via The Metropolitan Museum of Art. So many fabulous details in this work, especially the tray of rings for sale and the loose gems. A perfect Valentine’s treat!
Happy Valentine's Day! Here are some 17th to 18th-century posy rings from the British Museum. They read, "My ❤️ you have & yours I crave," "My ❤️ is free for God & thee," "As I expect so let me find A faithfull ❤️ & constant mind," and "Far apart yet nigh in ❤️"
