If you haven't already, I urge you to read Benno Weiner's Los Angeles Review of Books of Tahir Hamut Izgil's WAITING TO BE ARRESTED AT NIGHT (trans by Joshua L. Freeman). A wonderful summary and contextualization of perhaps the most important work on contemporary Asia this year.

Wow. According to Literary Hub, 𝘞𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘉𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘵 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 by Tahir H. Izgil was the single best-reviewed nonfiction book of 2023.
It was a privilege translating Tahir's powerful memoir, and I'm moved to see it reach so many.

Thanks to Benno Weiner for this outstanding review of Tahir H. Izgil's memoir and Perhat Tursun's novel in Los Angeles Review of Books. The review does a beautiful job weaving together the historical context with the achievements and atmosphere of each book.
