Seeing a lot about workload modelling right now in light of marking & assessment boycott. I'll never forget going to an interview at a software company responsible for these systems & talking to a manager who considered academics lazy. I've always thought that couldn't help...

This is the reality of the sector. Universities rely on discretionary labour -- on all the staff who do so much more than the working week allows, and do it because they love their subject, their research, their students. #ucuRISING

A slightly belated but very big THANK YOU to Isabel Guerrero, Marta Cerezo, their students UNED_Filología for having me over in mediatised form to give the closing plenary of their fabulous masters' conference, IX MELCIPS! 🖥️📖 A highlight of my week, and beyond! ¡Mil gracias!

So wonderful to give a talk on Global Shakespeare in this truly beautiful stage! Muchísimas gracias a la Universidad de Guadalajara and #FIID26 for the invitation and for being absolutely delightful hosts!

imagine another semester of strikes and no marking, a backlog of assignments that have not been touched, increased tension within universities, increased stress and anxiety for staff and students. UCEA, can you not see not see that higher education is on the brink of collapse?

Lily (@lilydarvey) 's Twitter Profile Photo

will the media let us speak? I just appeared on Times Radio with presenter Matt Chorley. he created a narrative that I am a poor student upset by the work of the UCU, THAT IS NOT THE CASE! the fault is with UCEA and the universities! stop silencing students! #markingboycott

These are actual examples of responses the strike breaking exam markers are giving final year students. What an absolute disgrace. And the employer UCEA stands by as the dispute grows increasingly bitter. Please RT this so they are completely exposed.

I saw that a university is offering £60 per script to undermine MAB. If my university paid me that much for marking, that would add up to nearly all my salary. If unis are so loaded, they should consider paying us fairly & not forcing us to work at burn-out rates.

Jade did amazing and made such brilliant points so graciously, in spite of the frustrating interruptions and biases of the journalist. What a difficult interview. Thank you Jade for the unbeatable solidarity!

To any student whose degree might be on hold partly because of my participation in the #MAB, I'd like to say that I'm deeply sorry. I also have duties to junior colleagues, and it's for them that I'm taking action. I'll do everything else in my power to assist you in your career.

"Many of the students who contacted the Guardian supported the industrial action by UCU members, with most blaming university leaders for failing to resolve the dispute." Come on UCEA! Get back to the negotiation table! For the good of staff & students theguardian.com/education/2023…

very disappointing to see both uni of kent, where i did an exchange programme at undergrad, and uni of edinburgh, where i did my masters, both treating their staff deplorably. there have been strikes since at least 2018 because they cannot bother to support their professors

“Educators and students aren’t two sides engaged in a fight against each other. They are two groups of victims harmed by the ongoing marketisation of HE” Thanks Taj Ali for highlighting staff🤝student solidarity UCEA won’t divide us 📰tribunemag.co.uk/2023/06/the-fi… #ucuRISING

A good overview of the frightening rise of the far right in Germany: in short, they hate immigrants, LGBTQI folk, and climate protections (now makes sense why my German hosts were telling me the AfD are against bike lanes among everything else): dw.com/en/germany-far…

My job as a research fellow at one of the world's best universities (a requirement of which is a doctorate) pays less than this and so, on this definition, I am an unskilled worker who wouldn't be allowed into the country. This system is utterly ridiculous..
