Early purple orchids and Bird's eye primrose were the focus of today's guided walk Ingleborough NNR and our Brae pasture reserve but we saw plenty more including Alpine bistort
Another great event with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - follow us on Bluesky 🦋 this week looking at Pink-eyes and Early Purples, though I got distracted by the Bluebells on Brae Pasture. Our next event is Colt Park Musical History Walk on Wednesday 5th June. See further details and how to book below. #YorkshireDales
We are thrilled to have played a crucial role in providing the scientific evidence for the new #MarineConservationZones 🌊 having analysed 1,900 data sets, leading to the designation of 41 new sites: gov.uk/government/new… Tony Juniper
This week it's all about the pinks, definitely bringing some lovely colour to our rainy days on the reserve! #wildflowers #pollinators #yorkshiredales Natural England Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland
Lots of Yorkshire Sandwort Arenaria norvegica subsp. anglica on Ingleborough NNR yesterday. More than I’ve ever seen due to high water levels in flushes (some plants underwater). Last pic gives nice comparison with Spring Sandwort Minuartia verna (purple anthers) BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland
Another excellent joint event today with Ingleborough NNR - today's theme Amazing Orchids, and they were!
This week Terry and John carried out a moth trap near Sulber and caught 31 different species including this lovely Elephant Hawk Moth! British Moths Natural England #monitoring
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - follow us on Bluesky 🦋 Ashes Pasture, Ribblesdale, bathed in sunshine under dazzling blue skies, a tapestry of colour. Thanks to Ingleborough NNR, The National Lottery Heritage Fund North, @ydmt, YWT members and volunteers, we are helping the wildlife to thrive. Day 27 #30DaysWild from The Wildlife Trusts
Lovely butterfly walk Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - follow us on Bluesky 🦋 Brae Pasture, Ribblesdale and Ingleborough NNR High Brae with Natural England Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire Colin Newlands & Kay, with lots of Northern Brown Argus seen, two stunning Wood Tigers and stunning Chalk Fragrant Orchids.
Last in a series of 6 excellent joint events with Ingleborough NNR today, visiting the Southerscales and Scar Close areas. Melancholy thistle and Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary amongst the highlights. Same again next year?
Thank you to everyone who took part on our National Plant Monitoring Scheme day last Friday. The aim of NPMS surveys is to collect data to provide an annual indication of changes in plant abundance and diversity. This year we surveyed on Sulber. Natural England
Scar Close pavement has been ungrazed since 1975 and is the richest individual montane pavement in the British Isles with over 230 higher plant species recorded. It is looking spectacular at the moment particularly on a sunny day. Natural England
23/7/19 It’s Frog Orchid Day, well in my calendar anyway ! ! N. Yorks - Ingleborough NNR Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - North Yorkshire - great to see them, various shades of red & green, quite widespread and in good numbers
An excellent visit to Scoska Cave last week teaching the British Ecological Society summer school students about the ecology, geology and history of caves as well as how the flora and fauna both inside and outside the cave adapt to these niche conditions and thus why caves are important
The volunteer team helped us repair a wall gap at High Lot last week. Dry stone walls aren't only important boundaries, they also provide niche habitats for a range of flora and fauna, as well as being a part of our heritage. #drystonewalling Yorkshire Dales National Park
