Telling comment from an outgoing retail apple producer - that supermarkets want orchards to act like ball bearing factories, producing a visually homogenous product & telling consumers that’s what they want from their food - not taste or sustainability. bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

Salad that ran short because of some weather recently is grown on heavily irrigated, plastic covered, semi arid land. Pastoralism dominated there BECAUSE water was scarce. Feeding rich vegans out of season veg from poor people’s water doesn’t seem to be sustainable George Monbiot

So BBC News (UK) running the story surprise shortage in veg increased inflation . No surprise to many of us, there will be further shortages if farmers and growers not paid fair price to cover input and energy costs . #backbritishfarming

He’s absolutely right. Cows are part of environmental sustainability. Methane from cows is part of the natural carbon cycle that after 12 years breaks down into natural CO2 and water. Grass absorbs the CO2 by photosynthesis and the cycle starts again.

🍏🛒 Supermarkets Say They Support British Apples, But Do They Really? 🤔🍎 Did you see @BBCCountryfile last Sunday? Andrew Opie from The British Retail Consortium said supermarkets are "fully supportive of British fresh produce." But is that the whole story? British apple growers strongly
