“When I was in Steamboat I was really struggling and I was suicidal and about to be homeless...and then a family who I did theater with took me in so I guess I had never really experienced love like that before and really the only explanation for it was that they loved Jesus.”

“If something happened, I would have a million people I could call for help. This community feels like a home for me, it just feels like family.”

“I would say that I am very, very lucky because I speak both languages. I love my accent. I don’t want to lose my accent. I speak Spanish ninety percent of the time and I only use my English when I need to.” Photo and Interview By Maria Estrada

“My family all grew up here in the Carbon Valley and tri-town area, my dad, my uncle, and other uncle were all firefighters in Carbon Valley and coal miners and brick masons and we all grew up here and kind of helped build the town.”

“I feel like I’m a pretty boring person, and it turns out a lot of people find me more interesting than I think I do. I am full of weird useless facts, I absolutely adore dinosaurs, I have 2 dogs, I’m passionate about weird things.”

“I farm in the Frederick/Firestone/Dacono area. We’re trying to make a go of that. Trying to be a sustainable farm and make a little bit of money while we’re doing it. That’s the job that honestly I would do all the time but unfortunately doesn’t pay the bills all the time.”

“A lot about being a vet tech is dealing with people because those are their babies and if the don’t have children, or even if they do, the animals are still huge parts of their lives, so it’s good that we can help them when the animals don’t have a voice.”
