''The recruitment ban is leading to increasing working hours for NCHDs, Consultants being left with insufficient numbers of NCHDs on teams and significant contract breaches on working hours across the system'

DrMáireT Amazing article.➡️'Nobody ever seems to hit upon the bright idea that *happier workplaces retain employees*. . . Just ask the hundreds of Irish doctors in Australia enjoying treats like offices, places to rest when on call and days off' ⬅️

A short piece about Irish doctor emigration to Australia. This year 535 Irish doctors obtained Australian work visas (up from 410 last year). To promote #DrRetention and encourage doctors to return, there's a need to address long working hours and poor work life balance.

Really good interview with DrMáireT about the challenges of balancing medicine and medical training with family life. Flexible working should be available to all if we want to retain doctors #DrRetention #GPRetention rte.ie/radio/radio1/c…

Great to see ⁦Hospital Doctor Retention and Motivation Project findings featured in this piece. So important that health system change is informed by feedback from frontline⁩ health workers who know firsthand how the system works (or doesn’t work) #DrRetention independent.ie/irish-news/bur…

‘Significantly understaffed’: Hiqa to conduct review into midwest care capacity after Aoife Johnston report irishtimes.com/politics/2024/…

“The report highlights the unacceptable staffing levels at the Emergency Department in UHL, and this is something that cannot be ignored. It is simply unconscionable that we continue to have a situation where lives are at risk due to inadequate staffing.”

Today Aus (Ahpra) announced a fast-track registration process for Irish-trained specialists (GPs, anaesthesia, obs & gynae, psychiatry) seeking to move to Aus. In 2024, 624 Irish doctors (mostly non-specialists) obtained Aus work visas. IRL needs a policy on #DrRetention +return

'It suits some people to say medical staff and other Irish workers come for the lifestyle. . . Not the hard truth, which is that people feel let down by Ireland enough to leave it'. 100% agree Brianna Parkins irishtimes.com/life-style/peo… #DrRetention

Imagine if Irish hospitals were nice places to work. There would be no staff shortages. Yet for some reason the answer is always beatings will continue until morale improves. Listening to recent ‘health debates’ has been bad for my own health!!
