It’s a big week! After 10 years, we're proud that we've reached over 15K families, with measurable positive outcomes for young children & families in Lambeth. This Weds we're presenting our learning & we hope it will pave the way for continued improvements for babies & families👇

Delighted to have been elected Chair of the Health and Social Care Select Committee Health and Social Care Committee. From GPs to dentists, maternity services to mental health there is much to do. The committee has a vital role to play scrutinising govt as it tackles these challenges.

We (understandably) often jump to deaths as a result of NHS underfunding or other failure when we discuss it but there’s also just so many people having a worse quality of life than they (we) need to. Deaths are the tip of the iceberg.

Glad to see that this @AIMS letter will be good for the post-Darzi pile, as Ministers work their way through 'sorting maternity'. It contains some great suggestions for the next 10 Year Plan :-) Wes Streeting MP

Stephanie deGiorgio Just on process, we can insist that the draft 10 year plan goes out to full public consultation as a starter. And a good first step before that would be the production of a thorough assessment of the existing plan, and progress made.

First observation: I'm finding it unusual to see so many of these in a PM speech: "[Please note political content redacted here.]". Now on to the substance! gov.uk/government/spe…

Mairi A good example of prevention, perhaps? Your brief low cost intervention treated the issue & prevented a lengthy precautionary admission? Is this intervention offer standard, supported by all HCPs? (Ps: What's the likelihood baby will stay head down?)

At the EJOG editors meeting yesterday, we vowed to stamp out fake research. We learned methods to detect it. If you made up your data, don't send it to EJOG. We'll catch you.

Thanks to aims.org.uk for publishing this piece of mine, in response to their call for articles on the theme of trust. "I have come to dislike having to refer to local NHS services in their organisational form as trusts. It feels like ... a particular kind of gaslighting"

Kids in school uniforms being forced to cosplay as 'mini, middle-class office workers'. Brilliant. Almost nailed it😉 Do school leaders even know what usual attire of that group is? The age of daily wearing of jackets and ties is long gone in all but minority of workplaces🙄

Why are consent forms etc in NHS deployed so randomly? Case 1: non-emergency outpatient ultrasounds, same area, one org uses them/another doesn't. Case 2: local MRI, private contractor: no consent form nor patient feedback tool. Information provision also varies.

I looked after my mum with advanced dementia, and I wished to promote her dignity, autonomy and independence as far as I could. But there comes a time where complete independence is actually unsafe, and you have to prioritise safety. There's an important lesson in there.

Having space to think & slow down- clinical supervision, peer support etc- is key for decent care. It's about the state of mind of the care-giver, to feel supported & keep perspective. When are we going to genuinely commit to this rather that it being an add-on "if there's time"?
