“Whaat— that would be ridiculous. Of course I didn’t.” He totally did. “Maybe we should track him down and just ask? Or we could try Korra.” Honestly, Bolin just wanted to have a conversation that wasn’t one sided. He had so many questions!

He didn’t care about sounding crazy to Korra, but he couldn’t quite hide his excitement to talk to Pabu. “Which way did he go? He can’t be that hard to find, right?”

“Uh...” He thought back, frowning slightly. “This morning? We ate together. But he’s probably hungry again. He’s got a bottomless pit for a stomach.”

Well, that was an easy answer, at least. “Probably the Jade Dragon. They’ve got our favorite dumplings. If I were a human Pabu, that’s where I’d go.”

He waves back, extremely confused.

“Hey, wait for me!” He had to jog to catch up, but he didn’t really mind.

“You good, Asami?”

“Surely he couldn’t get into that much trouble... right?” Still, he climbed on quickly.

He rolled his eyes, not bothering with a reply. He was still just so excited to talk with Pabu— like, actually talk with him! He stayed silent until they came to a stop. “Think he’ll recognize us? I mean, we have to look different in ferret eyes.”

He followed behind, looking around quickly. At first glance, he didn’t see anything. “Maybe I was wrong?”

“As long as you’re sure. You haven’t been sleeping well?”

“Wouldn’t that be funny? We’ve been looking for him, and he’s just waiting for us at home?” It sounded like their luck. It wasn’t like he had any other ideas of where to look.

“That’s because you have no sense of humor.” He muttered it under his breath, but he didn’t really care if Mako heard him or not. He followed behind him.

He nearly walked into Mako as he snickered to himself, stumbling to a stop inches from his back. “Aw man! It’s a really long walk home.”

“Ooor, you could call in the theft and come with me to the apartment to find Pabu. You’re not on duty, Mako.” Plus, he really didn’t want to walk all the way home by himself.

“We could call Asami. She’d probably give us a ride. Or... are things still weird for you guys?” He could never keep track. He glanced both ways down the street, looking for other vehicles to hitch a ride on. He wasn’t fond of walking.

Bolin wrinkled his nose but nodded, preparing to make the leap onto the back of the garbage truck. It wasn’t like this would be the first time. “For the record, I hate this so much.”
