One of the many issues with being so busy is that the team are not always getting breaks. So we are happy to say we brought back #TeaAt3 Whittington Health NHS Trust ED. At least we could make sure that everyone got a break and chance to refuel. Huge thanks to everyone who baked or bought food.

Have I saved the best for last? In the final episode of this season I spoke with paramedic Pete Lewin about his amazing work supporting frontline staff and first responders by taking them out swimming with his gorgeous pack of Newfoundland rescue dogs.

I agree with this, creativity is undervalued. Unfortunately we are ,also, now at a place where all we do is fire fight daily and we have no time and space for anything else. Staff are getting burnt out and we struggle to do any meaningful improvement work on our services.

NHS nurses hold the hands, tend the wounds, save the lives, wash the dead. They comfort us, console us, diagnose us, save us. They toil & smile & endlessly care. Not a single NHS nurse wants to strike tomorrow. They’re desperate. Please show NHS nurses some love. Please RT 💙

I am really delighted (and hugely relieved) that the Royal College of Psychiatrists has published this guidance for all mental health organisations for the pastoral care of all mental health staff following the suicide of a patient…lnkd.in/gP7ciERn lnkd.in/gkx6rRPJ

We know that cold-water swimming and animal-assisted therapy can be really good for mental health. But what about cold-water swimming WITH animals? Listen to this week's episode of When Work Hurts to hear more about this from paramedic Pete Lewin and his Newfoundland rescue dogs

Are there any high level conversations going on about how to look after staff. When this current disaster ends ( if it ever will) will there be serious discussions about what care we offer to the people that had to hold it all together or will we just expect them to bounce back

Did you know research has found that crafts like knitting, crocheting and cross-stitch can help to reduce stress? In fact, they enhance our mental wellbeing, boost our cognitive flexibility and stimulate the release of dopamine, our feel-good neurotransmitter. #Moveitorloseit

1/2 when we consider our NHS workforce crises we need to recognise the psy injuries caused by stretching staff to meet the needs of patients. Staff will fill these gaps- they want to do a good job. For some staff this results in a mental health concern. But…
