Thanks to Adam ๐Ÿ’™ and Luke Barry ๐Ÿ for creating this with me: fun, fascinating and enlightening in equal measure (we hope!), you can find The Shindig whenever you get your podcasts, or on the Red River #Archaeology Group YouTube. Huge thanks, too, to Maria and Oxford Archaeology!

Pictish king Onuist and Eadberht, king of the Northumbrians, led their respective armies to Dumbarton Rock #OTD in 756, where the Clyde Britons agreed to a treaty, perhaps involving the payment of tribute as a grudged but necessary alternative to violence. ยฉEddie Mackinnon

There are always obscure stones. Neglected stones that do not attract out-of-parish pilgrims. Of course, a lack of visitors does not mean an absence of stories. Even stones with low profiles cannot help but be powerful engines of folklore. โ€“ Dr. K. Brophy #StandingStoneSunday

The Sighthill Circle. Completed at the Spring Equinox in 1979. The first stone circle to be created in the UK in 3000 years. Now relocated just 200 metres from original sight and now correctly aligned astronomically โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ. #Glasgow #sighthillglasgow #standingstones #megalith

With Ben Chu's report on BBC Newsnight last night echoing @Hallam_VC's piece in the The Guardian, I think we're homing in on our first 'shared understanding' of the sector finances: universities were spared austerity in 2012. What happened to staff pay? 1/

Our own Annemarie Franz spotted an interesting parallel between this stone from Burghead, held at National Museums Scotland, and the Govan Warrior. Note the pointed beard, long hair, and most importantly, small, round shield held on shoulder straps on the left side of the body.
