Particularly welcome the government's commitment to develop a long-term pathway for the UK ETS and to explore expanding the scheme to more sectors of the economy, including high emitting sectors. We're about to kick off some thinking in this space... gov.uk/government/new…

This is conceptually right (revenue going to EU that would have gone to UK) but a technical difference is that carbon price will be paid by EU importer rather than UK producer. (Incidence could be pushed back onto producer, of course)

Some worrying coverage recently of the falling UK ETS price, so this is very good to see. Govt will limit allowances by 12.4% next year, then limit them further to 2030. That’s a big change from the current path - puts UK ETS on a Net Zero trajectory. gov.uk/government/new…

Industrial electricity prices are uncomfortably high in the UK vs Euro neighbours. Have been for a while (was a live debate all the way through my time in Government)... How do we make them as low as possible (and could we make them the lowest in Europe)?

Danial Sturge (@danialsturge) 's Twitter Profile Photo

My understanding is that its EU importers that will have to pay this, rather than UK companies - is that correct, Sam Lowe? "From 2026 UK companies exporting to the continent could end up paying £500m a year in carbon levies to the EU as a result of the CBAM"
