When one person makes such a difference. Huge thank you to Hannah, oncology University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS FT, who was brilliant. I finally feel I'm in safe hands. I walked out of the hospital with a spring in my step for the first time in 7 months to see a massive rainbow, which felt like a good omen

Bisphosphonates prescribed to PHPT patients to reduce fracture risks are reported to increase PTH. A contradictory study (first 2 pictures; 1st then last sentence). The third picture shows cardiac consequences of elelevated PTH. Why risk SCD for no reduction in fracture risks?

Due to start chemo today but sent home because no picc line appointments left. So I'm back again tomorrow. I said I was concerned after being told yesterday that my mg was 0.74. I was told it's perfectly normal, of course, and not to worry. I'll be sent home with steroids

Yesterday morning, I was filled with dread. Today I'm in such a good mood. The two clinicians who inserted my picc line were amazing. Oncology staff, all of them were also amazing. Before my first chemo, I was terrified. Now I think 'I can do this.' Trust is everthing University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS FT

Dr. Tony Royle, PhD As a former cardiovascular pharmaceutical rep, I wouldn’t take a statin if hell was frozen over. I never repped statins, I had Plavix, Avapro (ARB), Avalide, Primacor IV & Esmolol IV (beta blocker). But, I was required to know & understand all classes of cardiovascular

#Magnesium should be tested before & after parathyroid surgery. Clinicians who say Mg doesn't make much difference in post-op #hypocalcemia are mistaken. There is also an association between #hypomagnesemia and severity of primary #hyperparathyroidism pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34416890/

Prof Neil Gittoes Talk Dr David Bull Parathyroid UK I do not think the watch and wait approach is the way forward in the treatment of hyperparathyroidism. Personal experience says treatment is necessary and sooner. Damage can't be reversed, and I would rather be healthy.

A dismissive endo declared 30 years experience of #hyperparathyroidism No. Only the patients experience the creeping feeling of dread waking each day fearful of what the day will bring, & go to bed each night hoping desperately for sleep for just a few hours respite from PHPT.

I wonder how many failed #parathyroid surgeries it takes for a scan guided surgeon to realise 'I'm doing something wrong here'. Multi gland disease is on the increase. Surgeons who offer 4 gland exploration are getting it right the first time, unlike some of their colleagues...

A true thyroid panel must include: • Free T3 & Free T4 – Active thyroid hormones • Reverse T3 – Blocks metabolism when high • TPO & TG Antibodies – Detects autoimmunity • TSH – Should be very low (<1.0) • Total T3 & T4 – Shows real thyroid output And that's not all:

A lady posted that's she's finally made it onto a surgery waiting list for #parathyroid surgery, but it could be a wait of 12 months. It's taken 6 years to get on that waiting list! Hyperparathyroid patients get such a raw deal in the NHS.

UK data on #hyperparathoidism cases remains grossly underestimated due to poorly educated doctors & hospital labs, non recognition of #NCPHPT, refusal to test PTH, premature SCD, NICE Guidelines & supporters, failed ops/re-ops, & low numbers of experienced #parathyroid surgeons.

The GP in #Nottingham who refuses to refer his patient to an endocrinologist because her calcium is 'only 2.55mmol/l.' Look at this PTH level. Is it any wonder #hyperparathyroid patients are exasperated with some doctors? He refuses a 57p Mg test too. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20439261/

The reason so many people feel exhausted after working out is low magnesium. Magnesium fuels your mitochondria—the little engines that power your body. Low magnesium means low energy.

Maria's doctors/surgeons insisted that she didn't have primary #hyperparathyroidism because parathyroid scans were negative. Her daughter persuaded her to travel to Oxford for surgery with shad khan, who gave Maria the best Mother's Day gift. Scan guided surgeons 👎

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS FT you & I have a long history of friction re primary #hyperparathyroidism. I gave up on you improving. A lady diagnosed in 2020 has been told surgery is a last resort. You need an expert #parathyroid surgeon. Your endos are still causing harm. hyperparathyroiduk.com/endocrinologis…

Sallie Powell (@spsallie) 's Twitter Profile Photo

According to your website you have 18 endocrinologists uhdb.nhs.uk/diabetes-endoc… Yet we've never had any positive feedback in eleven years. You could replace them all with one/two expert parathyroid surgeons. You did top one of our surveys; Derby; Worst UK outcomes & waiting times.

All but one of the consultants at Royal Derby Hospital list their speciality as 'Diabetes' so why on earth are they seeing #hyperparathyroid patients when it's blatantly clear from patient feedback that they're completely out of their depth? That's putting it mildly.
