My new 9th edition MLA handbook has arrived! I’m giddy. Between this and the Covid booster, I’m having a pretty rockin’ weekend! 😂

Books with queer content aren't inappropriate or pornographic. They're books. Books belong in classroom and school libraries. If a parent does not want his/her/their child to read a book, fine. But that parent has no right -- no right -- to say other kids cannot read those books.

It's challenging but essential for parents and teachers to celebrate kids who have the gumption to question what they're told, and, indeed, to actively support them in becoming reflective rebels. Alas, too many adults seem to prefer the child of least resistance.

No matter. No matter what I put on their plates. No matter my manner or service. Some kids will not eat. And, some things are not about me. I had to learn to accept this. One’s ego in such things leads to despair. So, I let go my ego. And I head back to the kitchen.

Busywork is the bane of urgency in a classroom. If you assign busywork in any way: stop. All work must support learning. If it doesn't, do not ask any human being to do it.
