Hamas is a terrorist organization, of that there is no question, no ambiguity. They must be dismantled. Killing non-combatants because they're in the way communicates that their lives are inherently worth less than those Hamas threatens. Neither take should be controversial.

Can we all agree that the Israel-Hamas war made it clear that Twitter, under new management, is significantly worse? Intentional or not, it's now orders of magnitude easier to mislead the masses here. As still the most adopted platform, this has grave implications for democracy.

I spoke Israelis whose loved ones were killed or taken hostage by Hamas militants: despite unimaginable grief, they're calling for an end to bloodshed, for the protection of Gaza civilians, for Gaza not to be destroyed. Brave voices in the bleakest moment independent.co.uk/news/world/mid…

What exactly are these friends doing now, and why is the answer not "vigorously and vocally opposing the murder of innocent civilians exacted as retaliation for the murder of innocent civilians"?

This war is being framed as between Israel and Hamas. But in the West Bank, which is not governed by Hamas, Palestinians are being killed by settlers, sometimes under the watchful gaze of the IDF, and by Israeli forces. Israeli airstrikes have targeted Jenin refugee camp.

The place where Shireen Abu Akleh was killed in Jenin has been bulldozed, and her shrine desecrated by Israeli forces. What does this have to do with Hamas? What does this have to do with self defence? What does this have to do with getting the hostages back? Absolutely nothing.

Hamas may be at war with Israel, but Israel is waging a genocide on all of Palestine. The antisemitic rhetoric is often Islamophobic, too. The damage being done by the words the media chooses to use or not use to describe the events in the Middle East is unconscionable.

I’m sure we’d all feel that it was very reasonable to drop bombs on a shopping centre if, for instance, someone said that Bin Laden was chilling in Westfield.
