As many of you know, the last couple of weeks has been fairly active, and you may be wondering why new cases aren't updated on the website. The datasource for soundings we display on our site is having some issues. We're working on a workaround and will have an update later today

New cases from the second half of July have successfully been added. Watertown is showing who's boss up north. Thank you all for your patience!

Not only have we had a UI update but I have gone through and added a "monsoon" tag to all of the fitting cases! Now if you have a Desert lightning event that you want to study, all you have to do is add the tag!

Currently in production at Storm Chase Archive: High-res satellite loops for cases from 2017 all the way back to 1994! Our original data source was limited to a 7 km resolution, but we now have 1 km VIS/2 km IR data.

Finally updated Storm Chase Archive to feature this storm along with many others. After adjusting for surface ops, you find an extremely favorable environment for damaging, wet microbursts. Steep LLLRs, a weak EML, and deep moisture with PWATs over 2.0.

[I promise this is not an AWS joke] The app.chasearchive.com website might have been misbehaving for some folks this morning, due to a mess-up in the DNS config I made this morning. Should all be fixed now, though additional downtime may be possible tonight. Thank you for your

When I first wrote the scripts to load historical surface obs and vis sat one of the first cases I played around with was the Monument Valley tornado in 2015. Today is the day those images now live on the web in Storm Chase Archive instead of just on my computer. (The Montezuma Creek
