I know structural racism can seem pretty abstract, but Kathy Hochul canceling the subway extension to Harlem to appease wealthy suburban business owners is a pretty clear cut case of structural racism. amny.com/news/congestio…

I feel honoured to speak at the “Diversity in Clinical Genomics: Minding the gap” meeting today in Cambridge Parachute science hindered Africa's genomics. Initiatives like Human Heredity and Health in Africa empower local researchers, but more strategic efforts are needed to build capacity and leadership

“Each time you search for something like ‘how many rocks should I eat’ and Google’s AI ‘snapshot’ tells you ‘at least one small rock per day,’ you’re consuming approximately three watt-hours of electricity… ten times the power consumption of a traditional Google search”

Not ancient history. Barely even in the past. The people who screamed at him are still walking around, and some of them are proud of the way they acted.

GWAS on EA/IQ are today's version of Morton's craniometry studies, imo. Every time I see these terrible papers pop-up, I wonder how we stop people from pursuing such fundamentally flawed "research" that is often steeped in racial biases & completely lacking scientific rigor.

I wore a mask to a comedy show last night and you'll never guess what happened. Unless your guess was something like "You had a good time, felt safe, and reduced your and others' risk of transmitting infectious diseases during a COVID surge" It was?! Damn, you're a good guesser.

If you think a nightmarish, unconstitutional round up of innocent people, merely suspected of being enemies of the state, can’t happen in the U.S., then you’re forgetting that it already has. I was among them, along with my entire family and community.

Made it four years. Tested positive this morning. Feel like shit. Once I recover, I'll continue masking in public and getting vaccine boosters and I hope you will, too.

Gullah Geechee Olympian alert! Twanisha “TeeTee” Terry was born in Miami but her people are from the Gullah Geechee Land! Specifically Jasper and Colleton counties in coastal South Carolina. So much #Gullah #Geechee power on the gold medal winning 4x100 relay!

AI can be used to make convincing looking fake data. There is no way we can distinguish real from fake anymore. It is safe to assume that genAI has already resulted in many fake papers. Scientific publishing is not prepared for this.

My favourite discovery ever has just come online. Can I please tell you about some seriously wacky molecular biology? The story starts with a reverse transcriptase that SOMEHOW defends bacteria from viruses. (👇 I recommend sound ON for the video 🎹) 1/
