I'll parry Q2 w/another Q: How might we counteract education's long-lived siloing systems by sifting, sharing, & acting on information in ways that serve more students more effectively? #satchat

Morning, #sunchat. I'm Brian. I support middle-school students & staff to grow our literacy skills at a public charter school in Colorado. I'm part of a group of 8th-grade teachers piloting (slightly) alternative grading practices: only summative results count, practice=ungraded.

Thanks for sharing your thinking & wondering, #sunchat. Maybe we can all give ourselves gold stars or A-pluses for participation, assuming we can justify such high marks :)

Greetings, #sunchat. I'm Brian. I support MS students & staff at a public charter school in Colorado to grow our literacy skills. As someone intrigued by words, I'm caught by the phrase 'pre-service.' Isn't someone in this role *actually* serving - perhaps as an apprentice?

Time for me to slip out the side door, #sunchat. Thanks as always for the reflective virtual space & double-gratitude for those who turn ideas into actions. Best to you for your Sundays.

Greetings, #satchat. I'm Brian. I support middle-school students & staff at a public charter school in Colorado to grow our literacy skills. A1 I subscribe to old saw about smartest person in the room being the room, so Twitter has helpfully put me in a bigger room.

Irony alert: Several people touting a platform named after an extinct animal (Mastodon!) as a hedge against fears that a little blue bird may someday no longer exist. #satchat

And not just *would* they, but how might that community's makeup change if it were behind a paywall? Anyone done research on that?? (i.e., Demographics of free, freemium, and pay-for online services) I suspect the data set qualifies as proprietary. #satchat

Greetings, #pd4uandme. I'm Brian. I support middle-school students & staff at a public charter school in Colorado to grow our literacy skills. While I'm not big on holiday observations myself, I do appreciate gifts of time often bestowed when holidays are marked.

In November, I got back into a YA reading groove. Among my favorites to recommend: Everything Sad is Untrue (Nayeri), We Are Okay (Lacour), Airborn (Oppel). I'm currently ~100 pages into Librarian of Auschwitz (Iturbe), which is simultaneously gripping & harrowing. #pd4uandme

Ratio? As much as possible. Yet: Readiness of learners to carry that load independently or as part of a group varies, so planning for different & multiple on- & off-ramps, supports & extensions, is tricky best practice that relies on all other practices. #sunchat

Recent advice re: lecture from the always practical Cult of Pedagogy: cultofpedagogy.com/better-lecture/ Whatever tool a teacher might pull from their bag of tricks, that move is well done when it's purposeful. And best done when we look back to see the extent to which it worked. #sunchat

Look at Jozette practicing what she preaches: reading the room where she is &, nimbly, flexibly, being willing to change. #sunchat
