This is the Junior Cycle history book and I include the only reference to the Irish who fought in WW1. It is about time that Department of Education and Youth ensured the war is properly taught in schools. You can't understand the Irish Revolution without understanding Irish participation in WW1.

Remembrance on the battlefield today where Irish soldiers fought and died together in August 1917. "Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha uile".

I think this is an impressive statement by the Irish President. In it he remembers - while so many others choose to forget - all those who died this day 100 years ago. None of them woke up that day expecting to die. He has reached out & I applaud him for doing so. 👏👏👏

Time perhaps to abandon the decade of centenaries. Have one ceremony with a non-denominational service. Too much ‘celebration’ of murder and mayhem. Concentrate instead on health services, housing, unemployment, the plight of people in direct provision.

A 2021 request for all of you in Ireland who like football/sport but aren’t much of a League of Ireland fan. Pick your local team or the team from your childhood (or just pick St Patrick's Athletic FC). Follow them on social media. Resolve to go to a game when it’s safe. Take an interest.

Brendan O Shea Wondering if you came across this interview with Hugh Tudor when researching the burning of Cork. I'm a displaced Corkman who had never heard of the event growing up! albany.edu/talkinghistory…

This day 47 years ago – 12 March 1974 – Senator Billy Fox of Fine Gael was shot and killed in Tircooney, Co Monaghan. Fox was the first member of the Oireachtas to be killed since Patrick Reynolds in 1932. Five members of the Provisional IRA were convicted of his killing.

Lots of hard work & endeavour required along the road to peace & reconciliation before any Border poll should be contemplated. Legitimate question posed here by Proinsias de Rossa in today’s The Irish Times

"We all owe Mary Lou McDonald an apology. The Sinn Féin leader was mistakenly, callously and wrongly accused of being apologetic for Provisional IRA murders," says Fionnán Sheahan ow.ly/iHQR50EwLHi
