Day 222 of 2024 and we just passed 4MWh solar generation for the year, 3.5MWh used rest exported. Domestic solar should be standard on suitable new homes.

Bit of a left field moth this morning: unless I'm overlooking something else, all I can make this into is Nodaria nodosalis. Can't find any mention of it having occurred in Britain though. Eeek! Migrant Lepidoptera dave grundy🇪🇺😷 UK Moth Identification

Today, two things I had never seen before. A sunbathing Sparrowhawk, wings and tail spread and then this Adder, caught out in the open, it started moving backwards, immediate reaction was that the head was the tail, assume an anti-predator tactic. Amphibian and Reptile Conservation

FLYING COLOURS Zhengze Xu, China Category: Birds in Flight 2023 I took this photo of Red-and-green Macaws in a sinkhole in Brazil’s Bonito area during the breeding season. The rising sun cast a shadow on part of the cliff, creating a dark background.

55sp for BirdTrack at #LepeCP this morning, migrants restricted to a few Swallow, Sand Martin and a Grey Wagtail. Heard what I felt sure was Wood Sandpiper, but not certain enough for a site tick. Hampshire Ornithological Society

CPRE The countryside charity Biodiverse brownfield land outside of the Green Belt and full of scarce birds, insects and plants (1, 2). Species-poor, agriculturally unproductive, largely inaccessible, horsicultural Green Belt (3). I know which category I'd wish to protect the most.

New species will arrive in Britain as the climate changes, but they will be a non-random selection filtered by the English Channel. Surely our biogeographic status and evolutionary trajectory as an island are fundamental aspects of nature that we should be seeking to conserve?
