“We found there’s this perfect one-to-one relationship. If a city increased its road capacity by 10%, then the amount of driving in that city went up by 10%.” Still one of the best articles on why building bigger roads leads to more driving. Via WIRED wired.com/2014/06/wuwt-t…

In Quebec, engineers have installed a new light that stays red by default, but turns green when an attached speed camera detects an approaching motor vehicle that’s driving under the speed limit. @streetsblogmass explores. mass.streetsblog.org/2023/05/05/ste…

My son goes to cross Greenwood at 6th on his bike at the pedestrian crossing with the flashing lights. Some dude in a lifted truck on his phone doesn't stop. Fortunately nothing happened because my son was careful, but... 🤬🤬🤬

If we can all agree that traffic sucks...why would drivers want cyclists in cars to add to traffic. I just can't wrap my head around that thought. I always go back to the fact that some people hate when others have freedom.

Edinburgh became Scotland’s first 20mph (≈30kph) city in 2018, with nearly 90% of streets covered by the limit. Within three years, overall speeds decreased 8%, collisions 30%, fatalities 31%, and air pollution 22%. Journey times by car were identical or even slightly shorter.

... predictions of unbearable traffic as a result of reallocating space away from private vehicles were...alarmist.... When lanes were reassigned ... to higher-capacity modes – sidewalks, bike lanes and bus or rail lanes – traffic issues were less severe than expected...

Maybe I’ve missed it, but that’s the first time I’ve heard a City of Bend staffer mention in our paper of record that concrete barriers are an option for a protected bike lane. Feels like a small win.

An OregonDOT official said in a meeting yesterday that at current funding levels, it will take the agency 160 years (not a typo) to build out a complete biking/walking network. Meanwhile, #orleg, OTC, and ODOT continue to pour billions into freeway expansions.

Wow. Even Automotive News is acknowledging that "EV heavyweights put other road users at risk." The 4.5-ton Hummer EV gets special attention as an embodiment of EV bloat. autonews.com/technology/hea….
