:: National Wildland Firefighter Day: July 2, 2022 :: The work of a wildland firefighter is extremely difficult, it’s often not glamorous and rarely acknowledged. We are thrilled that there is now a newly established day to honor these hard-working, dedicated men and women.

During this #WeekofRemembrance, the wildland firefighting community takes time to reflect, remember, and honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Decades of history help us learn and reduce the likelihood of further tragedy.

Thinking of the Queen's long reign, my grandparents would have seen the pictures of the Queen with Nixon, Ford and Reagan. My mom's own grandfather passed in 1952 or 1953 just as the Queen assumed her throne. The Queen would have been 18 when my father's dad was killed in WWII.

My favorite Earl Weaver story: Ross Grimsley is getting rocked one night, so Earl makes a mound visit and just says “If you know how to cheat, start now.”

It's a sad week in aviation history - the last 747 is set to roll off the assembly line. Arguably the most impactful commercial plane ever built, democratizing global travel for the middle class. Before the 747 international air travel was a privilege only for the wealthy.

Among our many reasons for gratitude on this year's Memorial Day, let us please remember the life and death sacrifices made by millions of Americans and their families to save our beloved country and the world from the scourge of fascism.
