Dr. Molly B. Atkinson I gave up. There’s no way to do 80 hours of work in a 40-hour week, and the system relies on us to exploit ourselves. And our students see that, and internalize it. I refuse to do that. I work my week, and live my life, and it’s either enough or it’s not.

We define a successful search as hiring someone good enough to meet our evolving tenure standards, not so good that they leave after two years, and willing to work below market rates in an “affordable” location. Thanks for the question!

When students cheat on assignments it’s because they have been taught that the importance of grades outweighs knowing or learning things.

I am just a grad student, standing in front of departmental supplemental research funds, asking myself how $300 could ever be enough money to attend a conference

We need to talk about how often disabled instructors, attempting to provide radical access with flexible deadlines & participation requirements, wind up with their courses deprioritized by students who are desperately trying to shoulder other instructors’ hostile pedagogies.

Jaclyn A. Siegel, PhD Do a buddy swap! Find someone to read your evals for you and take out all of the non constructive personal attacks for you. This way you're just left with constructive. The literature is pretty conclusive that women and POCs get dinged hard in evals and the comments can be awful

Today at Grading For Growth, I give 20 ways to get started with alternative grading on a small scale. Some of these are simple shifts in approach, while some are more concrete. But they are all good for students! #alternativegrading #highereducation gradingforgrowth.com/p/20-small-sta…
