Thinking of getting a new plastid, but worried that it will be too hard to figure out how to target proteins to it? Fear not, Kareniaceae dinoflagellates show that you can just use the preexisting translocons from the donor alga, haptophytes in this case. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Mitochondrial protein analysis reveals the starting point of eukaryogenesis. LECA was a flagellated excavate! This suggests that currently unidentified cytoskeletal proteins played important roles in early diversification of eukaryotes and then found new roles in descendant taxa.

nature.com/articles/s4155… Woah! "At the deepest phylogenetic levels, ancestral habitat reconstruction analyses suggest that eukaryotes may have first evolved in non-marine habitats and that the two largest known eukaryotic assemblages arose in different habitats."

Canadian Conservatives freaking out and bleating furiously about Mark Carney advising Trudeau on economic policy. I don't care for Trudeau, but you can't really argue with Carney's expertise...Conservatives fear they can't compete with his economics savvy I suspect.

If Poilievre thinks rising carbon prices would make "inflation run rampant", how is it possible that inflation has been more than cut in half since August 2022 while the carbon price has increased by 60 per cent? #cdnpoli

Niche question for protistologists: do any of you remember what year the Society of Protozoologists meeting was in Vancouver (at UBC) in the early 90s? It was either 91 or 92...but I can't remember which.
