Not mentioned in the NYT story on the penny is that production of the half-penny in the US ceased in 1857 because of its diminished spending power and the high cost of production. A half-penny in 1857 had the spending power of 19 cents today.

In Jan, a whistleblower said Germany's state-approved carbon offsets projects have problems. Today, the govt has declared its first results on 8 of 75 projects and they are damning. The credits traded at €440 per ton in 2022. Story with Natasha White: bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
