I agree with both Dr. McCarthy's The New York Times opinion piece and Dr. Bearman's blog. The RUC needs to read Dr. McCarthy's piece, and administrators will need to learn the cost of not having ID docs, which they will thanks to the shortage.

We stopped isolating MRSA patients a year ago. No change in overall incidence. Be careful looking at your data. We have seen seasonal trends for years (highest in the summer, lowest in autumn). Don't confuse seasonal variation for a real change.
