Sadly, the ND state government has repealed the nation's first use of approval voting. Nearly all those who spoke in support were citizens. The vast majority of those who opposed were government officials who sought to benefit from the status quo. ndlegis.gov/assembly/69-20…

This is a really nice differentiation between approval and IRV ballots. Ranking methods do not let you know the threshold for where you approve or disapprove candidates. Add the center-squeeze effect inherent to IRV and it only gets worse.

IRV/RCV critics sure do a shallow job, not just in their critiques but by often suggesting we should instead use plurality voting. We can critique IRV on the merits while still not replacing it with garbage. The Atlantic theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
