There’s a terminology issue in the #AlevelResults today. It’s not that 40% of grades have been changed, that assumes that they started off with that grade and were moved away. More accurate is 60% of calculated grades happen to match teacher assessments. #SLTchat #ukedchat

The Government has had months to sort out exams and has now been forced into a screeching U-turn after days of confusion.   This is a victory for the thousands of young people who have powerfully made their voices heard this past week.

However, the Tories’ handling of this situation has been a complete fiasco.   Incompetence has become this Government’s watchword, whether that is on schools, testing or care homes.   Boris Johnson’s failure to lead is holding Britain back.

Somehow even this u-turn is a shambles. What does this mean for young people that were already rejected by their first choice? If courses are full can gov provide funding for more places like gov doing in France? #ALevelsResults

Student on BBC News (UK) now explaining that she missed her first choice uni and now she'll have the grades to get in... she was told at first to appeal... then told it's now full... and it's not clear what happens next. How is there not a statement about the university position??

Students who have taken BTECs, utterly disadvantaged by this decision but there won't be the media or social media clamour because they aren't middle class qualifications

Looks like Johnson & Williamson have even ballsed-up their ‘screeching” U-turn: “BTEC and other vocational quals not included in U-Turn. One grade drop at btec is equivalent to 2 a level grade drops in terms of ucas points. So many students still affected.”

Am checking this with the DfE - but this the below is certainly what it seems like WHICH IS NUTS

Quite! The issue now is do you make Yr 12 sit exams, after missing 5 months' teaching, & give them grade rates akin to previous exam years - which then disadvantages them in applications against a year group now with bumper grades who've already bagged loads of deferred places?
