By firing people who worked on 1/6 and Trump-related investigations, Patel is politicizing the FBI and imposing a de factor loyalty test. Also, this ensures no FBI agent now would ever consider an investigation of Trump, his family, his associates, or his supporters.

Diplomacy is usual the right choice. But when you treat a barbarous war criminal and tyrant as an equal, treat his illegal demands as legitimate, greet him warmly, and meet with him with no preconditions, it helps him and bolsters his standing at home.

This is a severe case of Dear-Leader-itis. Putin craves a meeting with Trump to bolster his legitimacy and credibility. Trump (so far) has gotten nothing from Putin in return for this gift. It ain't a breakthrough yet.
