And this is the guy @NYTimes invited to a ⁦DealBook⁩ event?

Clearly these live event series are an important new revenue source for media orgs but this is a good example of the conflicts of interest they create.

“The backdrop is this massive change in British society where there are fewer coal miners or manual labourers to have these kinds of working-class sons and daughters, so there are fewer working-class people coming through.” ⁦The Guardian⁩ theguardian.com/culture/2022/d…

'It's not my duty as Mayor to make sure you have a parking spot. For me it's the same as if you bought a cow, or a refrigerator, and then asked me where you're going to put them.'

Nice point by Helaine Olen: GMA 3 and other shows *depend* on a fake flirtatious romance between their male and female hosts. So what if this one became real? washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/…

Love this. for @wsj social media editor is $40-160k, anywhere from barely squeaking by to living handsomely.

now requires employers to post ranges to improve gender equity, etc., but some of them are so broad as to be utterly meaningless.

Apparently some people think solar farms are unattractive.

But pretty much EVERYBODY thinks parking lots are unattractive. time.com/6239651/solar-…

The Sinema thing is very simple. Her calculus is that
1. She can't win a primary;
2. If she runs as an independent who caucuses with the Dems, another Democrat can't run bc they would split the vote and give the seat to the Republicans.

I'm devastated by the loss of Grant Wahl. He was a peerless journalist and kind man whose coverage of soccer was fair an fearless.

The best way all of us can honor him is do what he did throughout his distinguished career:

Pursue the truth, without fear or favor, always.

Interesting but confused by statement that farmers refusing buyouts 'will be forced out of business.' How so?

@TheGuardian quotes NL nitrogen minister: 'After a year, we will see if this has achieved enough.”

Been struggling to grasp significance of . Much commentary biased 1 way or other. But this from Matt Taibbi helps: “So far what I’ve seen mostly just confirms what we know, though it’s embarrassing to read.” politi.co/3BiZCoO via POLITICO Ben Schreckinger

I’m surprised people aren’t concerned making buses free won’t make an already crowded system more crowded. That’s what happened when weekly & monthly Metrocards were introduced. And why should the well-off get their fares subsidized? Jose Martinez

Dear non-profit workers: please edit everything you write. Start by deleting half of the words. Then look at the words that remain and remove all the jargon and acronyms. Now take out all unnecessary qualifiers and anything related to any kind of feeling.

I’m puzzled by this as well. Is the problem the Black applicants have higher debt-income ratios or banks have different standards based on race?

The former means wealth inequality will persist as long as income discrepancies do. The latter, discrimination.

“Mark Berman”⁩ As u report out this story I hope u tell us WHY it’s significant the shooter pleaded guilty. Not many defendants do @ this stage.

1 of my journalism pet peeves is we report on pleas w/o explaining why they matter (& often they don’t).
