I gave a talk last night on 2nd Battalion, Hertfordshire Regiment and No.9 Beach Group on D-Day. A couple were astounded that one of the local casualties had lived in their house - they never knew! They are now busy creating a memorial for him in their home.

The Union flag flying at half mast in the late afternoon sunshine on Monday for Teddy Noyes.
Teddy was a great supporter of GWH and a friend to us all.
Her love for The Old Contemptibles - ‘My Boys’ was undiminished to the very end.
Thank you to Jane and Roy for their care.

On May 1, 1933, hundreds of thousands gathered on the Tempelhofer Feld in Berlin for the “Day of National Labor.”
The Nazis successfully appropriated the day of the workers’ movement for their ideology.
One day later they crushed the free trade unions.

Our new vehicle heading out on her maiden battlefield tour. A huge commitment in making the decision to proceed given that the price of 2024 bought us TWO new vehicles in 2013. Not sure yet whether we’ll go the full monty on branding 🤔

Lovely to have received “Unbroken Glory” in the post today from Bob Jones who recently joined Jacques on a tour. Looking forward to reading it and complements my existing books on the RND during the Great War.

Arnhem bound today. We will only cover the main bridges. To do all 36 bridges (the overall total for the operation) would I think be going a bridge too far. But the sun is out, and we are on time for our crossing.

Stylish 1936 Railway poster of Harrogate designed by Arthur Cadwgan Michael (1881-1965) a painter and illustrator. His life story and particularly his private life makes an interesting read so to speak. The posters were obviously not aimed at the working class.

Captured German Generals arrive at Trent Park, 1943.

They were wined and dined at the mansion and were encouraged to talk, spending many afternoons strolling the lush grounds of the park.

They relaxed, unknowingly providing crucial war-winning information to the British.
