For eager beavers wanting to know what's next for housing after Major Streets:
-city wide policy will be a little quiet until Q4 when items for Avenues and low rise zoning come
-the focus over the summer should be on major sites (Downsview, Villiers, East Harbour) and Housing Now

I'm very happy about this and a lot of people put in good work to get it done. I don't think this (or the rest of EHON) will be enough to solve the housing crisis but we're adding more and more ways to add housing and if we keep going it will all add up.

Yesterday, the city of Toronto made progress unlocking our major streets to allow for buildings 6-storeys and up to 60 units (with built form restrictions) by-right.

Thank you to the hard work of Olivia Chow Brad Bradford✌️ Ward 4, Parkdale-High Park and others securing this important reform!

Today, Council passed a plan to allow much needed new homes on major streets throughout the city.

It will allow more folks to call Toronto home and create vibrant, livable neighbourhoods.

When we say yes to having more neighbours, we create a more caring and welcoming city.

Matt Once you have homeowners with insane zoning-inflated property values and a bunch of influential nonprofits and lawyers whose wheelhouse is blocking housing development it’s over for your city.

You’ll be the next Los Angeles, not the next Paris.

Chow’s motion to adopt the new staff recommendation to allow up to 60 units in the six-storey buildings permitted on major streets CARRIES 23-1.

Mayor Olivia Chow: “By building this way, we’re saying yes to more neighbours and we’re saying yes to newcomer families … We’re building their dreams because we’re building homes. If we don’t do that, it’s very difficult for people to stay in Toronto.”
