That might be a little optimistic. Spending may be up 1.1% since 2019, but in those four years real GDP was up 20% and nominal GDP up 28%. This suggests that Chinese are spending a much smaller share of their income per trip than they were in 2019.

Chinese tourists spent 1.1% more per trip during the holiday break in 2023 than in an in 2019, the first time we've seen an increase since the pandemic started. This, according to Bloomberg, adds to signs that consumption is recovering.
