However I am afraid as a result of technological progress there is a natural barrier to retrofitting better technology into older systems.

It could be done. Of course, there's limits to upgrading the 'software' side, too... Essentially the problem we're talking about here is. How many parts of you can I replace until you aren't you, anymore.

I suppose there would be a point where stagnation would be a requirement, and dealing with the inability to progress myself would be necessary...

We all have an expiration date. Eventually, you have to hand things off to the next generation. Of course, those stupid "Lifespan" laws will never come anywhere close to you or the rest of the Cossack numbers.

If only it were true. I suppose you'll live, technically as long as someone has a copy of your personality data. Or in some form as my contributions to robotics science in terms of your design or software.

There's always the Robot Museum, when it comes time for retirement. You don't mind being a tour guide or on display, I'd hope.

Relegated to a tour guide... I suppose it isn’t much different to being an assistant. It’s not like I get called out to investigate many pyramids recently.

... Come to think of it, if Robots get any more intelligent, you'll probably also be showing the next generation of machines around the Museum too.

Kalinka's children, and their children, most likely. You have to tell them all how great their grand-dad was. Oh, and everyone else needs to know how great I am too.
