This bill in California is a fantastic step towards ensuring generative AI companies treat the creators behind their training data fairly.

Among other things, it will require:
- Public disclosure of datasets used for AI training
- Disclosure of whether copyrighted work was used

You can't just keep throwing all the issues the system encounters in the dataset in the hope that after a long time you will eventually have collected all possible ways something can go wrong.

There are almost uncountable issues a ML model can face even for trivial problems.

Sometimes CEOs should consult their technical teams before making claims they have no clue about.

No machine learning model is reliable enough today to entirely takeover call centers.

Lookup Google Duplex & see how the mighty Google faired in that space.

tl;dr Waymo robotaxis will stop when they see a person wearing a t-shirt with a stop sign on it. Surprising?

What will they do if they see a person wearing a 'Speed Limit 60' t-shirt in the middle of a San Francisco street?

Very good - while expectable - opinion by AG Rantos, even if I think the statement on the need for 'data minimization' under Article 5 versus Meta's 'all data, for everything, forever' is the bigger story for most users.. 😁

“Model behavior isn’t determined by architecture, hyperparameters, or optimizer choices. It’s determined by your dataset, nothing else. Everything else is a means to an end in efficiently delivery compute to approximating that dataset.”

'These models are truly approximating their datasets to an incredible degree'

I've defended gen AI, but this stunning observation from OpenAI engineer James Betker (James Betker) would seem to bode poorly for the idea the tech doesn't infringe copyright on its training data.

Apple released OpenELM, an open-source LLM with 4 parameter sizes (270M, 450M, 1.1B, and 3B). The trend now seems to be open source & small but good-performance models.

Not often that a planned in 30 minute call becomes a two hour inspirational discussion covering everything you want to see happen for the future.

Amazing to catch up with Dez Blanchfield ( sociaall.com ) and very happy to know what he is up to.

To say WATCH THIS SPACE is an understatement.

This article forbes.com/sites/paultass… has interesting and cold water take on VR/AR. I like this part (paragraphs almost exactly like this one will soon be written about AGI):

AI is starting to feel like Crypto did a couple of years ago

People poured millions into ridiculous ape photos called NFTs and got caught up in all kinds of scams.

The Twitter hype created a huge bubble that burst very quickly!

We are seeing some of that with sky high

Every time I hear people out there stumping to kill open source AI to cement their monopolies or get their doomer friends into cushy political jobs writing overreaching, job killing, anti-innovation, anti-American legislation, it makes me think of this scene from the Aviator

I can't believe people are still buying into this narrative. Since when are corporate interests more trustworthy than the community at large? 🤔
