Our Prep School classes were treated to their own story time sessions in the Senior School library yesterday, with pupils from Fourth Form and the Sixth Form reading to them. This was just one of the many activities the College put on to celebrate World Book Day UK 📚.

Inspired by photographer Shea Glover’s social experiment to capture people’s reactions before and after being told that they’re beautiful, Prep 5 performed the same experiment. This led to a discussion around the power of kindness and the difference a few kind words can make.

This morning Miss Green, assisted by pupils in Third Form and Lower Sixth, addressed the school on the importance of kindness. Among other messages, they noted that unkind words are like toothpaste squeezed out of a tube... once put out there, they can't be taken back! #Kindness

Back in September, we reported that Maddie (Fourth Form) and her father, Robert, walked the route of Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for The William Harvey Hospital. Inspired by this, over the Easter break they completed the 100 mile walk of the West Highland Way over 7 days!

Tennis royalty was in town yesterday as Tim Henman visited Tides and Walmer LTC to support the vision for an East Kent Community Tennis Programme. Still in its infancy, the Festival has created awareness of the project which is supported by Dover College, the LTA and Your Leisure

Next week is Mental Health Awareness Week. The campaign is in its 22nd year and runs from 9-15 May. This year the theme is loneliness, which affects millions of people across the UK. We'll be doing out bit at the College to raise awareness and support those in need. #IveBeenThere

Prep 5 pupils took part in a range of activities this morning, where they had the opportunity to demonstrate their teamwork and leadership skills. The task which involved working together to build a structure from marshmallows and cocktail sticks was particularly popular!

A scrapbook belonging to Captain Wilfred “Billie” Nevill, the Old Dovorian who famously led the football charge at the start of the Battle of the Somme, has been found. In it, Billie curated various team, house and school photographs. It is now on display in the College Archive.

The sun shone for (some of) day two of filming our new school video. Thank you to Mr Turner for these atmospheric shots, captured at Dover Castle early yesterday morning. Fingers crossed for good weather today, as the crew move down to the port and Dover Sea Sports Centre.

Dover College is a long-time sponsor of Deal and Betteshanger Rugby Club. Every year, the team play a special game against the Royal Marine Band Service. It is an annual fixture that is a poignant and emotional game. This year, Mr Irwin took a group of boarders down to watch.
