We were driving north on the 1, considering the population of crime regret at the men's colony in SLO. Rantum-Scootum and the Trash Pandas were on the stereo, another hit single they hadn't written yet. Shiva was in the passenger seat, Confucious asleep in the trunk.

Snow had begun vacationing in Ojai, a boon for the gas markets as the promise of lower temperatures signaled change, but usually you just had to look at the hills from a distance, prostrate yourself inside and accept peace would never reach the coast now.

Looking out through the grass screen there was a beautiful, desperate, dry landscape. The ’94 Silver Lexus rolled on with dreams of being something else. Dreams were still in the possession of the human and inanimate – Soul remained alone, in the wilderness, without bridle.

Sustenance arrived, spun around on the lacquered marble top diner bar that curved across the high shag carpet, seemingly keeping something solid between the animals on one side and us and the infinite chasm of indecision above and below.

I had been expressing strategy for fighting a psychic bear with my twin brother. Me, on both legs, arms dispersing enhanced explanations, a room full of potential. My twin was not entirely engaged in the ideas, but the smiling grimace did provide a little comfort none-the-less.
