Following Monday's Senate vote on SB 1, KSBA renews its long-held opposition to legislation that erodes the local control of any of Kentucky’s elected school boards.

Rep. Kevin Jackson, R-Bowling Green, a former Warren County Schools board member, honored KSBA for its 90th Anniversary with a legislative citation on the House floor.

Senate Bill 4, as currently written, undermines the authority of locally elected school board members & diminishes the voices of nearly 1 million voters in Kentucky's two largest school districts. KSBA believes all individuals governing a local school district should be elected.

The Senate declined to concur with changes to SB 4. The bill now goes to conference committee. As the conferees work to resolve their differences, KSBA urges the removal the provisions that alter the make up of local boards & prohibit service based on working in another district.

KSBA Executive Director Kerri Schelling, along with KSBA President Pamela Morehead, presented KSBA’s PEAK Award (Public Education Achieves in Kentucky), which honors a district program, tonight to Shelby Co Schools Ky’s Shelby Academy, an innovative alternative education program.
