Yesterday, the Belgian Air Force🇧🇪 performed a flypast over the Memorial. During the Battle of Normandy the Belgians flew two squadrons of Spitfires as part of Royal Air Force Squadrons 349 & 350. They represented with an A400 Atlas transport aircraft and 2 F16 Fighting Falcons. #DDay80
The next job was to commission an iconic sculpture as the centrepiece of the Memorial. We needed the best so went to David Williams-Ellis. He really delivered for us with the powerful and evocative group of three soldiers, tense but determined, which captures the essence of DDay 2/
David Williams-Ellis For the 75th anniversary of DDay in 2019 President Macron and PM Theresa May came to inaugurate the sculpture. Macron had been a staunch supporter from the start and it was great to welcome him. Many thought this was the Memorial! But it was just the start: more tomorrow. End
