Five years ago today an historic moment took place as the now iconic D-Day Sculpture by David Williams-Ellis was installed at the site. The sculpture was at the centre of the inauguration ceremony on the 75th anniversary ahead of the building of the Memorial. #DDay80 #OTD

Yesterday, the Belgian Air Force🇧🇪 performed a flypast over the Memorial. During the Battle of Normandy the Belgians flew two squadrons of Spitfires as part of Royal Air Force Squadrons 349 & 350. They represented with an A400 Atlas transport aircraft and 2 F16 Fighting Falcons. #DDay80

'I can't put it into words. I'm still speechless now.' The Traitors winner and former Army Corporal Harry Clark visited the British Normandy Memorial last week for filming ahead of 'D-Day 80 at the Royal Albert Hall' on ITV. He recalls the impact the visit had on him.

The next job was to commission an iconic sculpture as the centrepiece of the Memorial. We needed the best so went to David Williams-Ellis. He really delivered for us with the powerful and evocative group of three soldiers, tense but determined, which captures the essence of DDay 2/

David Williams-Ellis For the 75th anniversary of DDay in 2019 President Macron and PM Theresa May came to inaugurate the sculpture. Macron had been a staunch supporter from the start and it was great to welcome him. Many thought this was the Memorial! But it was just the start: more tomorrow. End

80 years since D-Day. 80 years since the largest seaborne invasion in history. 80 years since the heroic efforts of those who landed on the beaches of Normandy to liberate Europe from Nazi tyranny. 80 years of peace in Western Europe since. Today we say thank you. #DDay80
