Detentions (and other consequences) affect the behaviour of the many not the few daviddidau.substack.com/p/do-detention…

Greg Ashman We’re very explicit when we give consequences that these aren’t punitive but a signal that a) the behaviour that led to the consequence isn’t acceptable in our community b) as a signal to the student to change their behaviour as the consequences of it will be severe in adult life

What starting off as an attempt to provide students with effective learning techniques (left) ended with a 12 month journey on how to support students with developing learning habits (right). Oh and a 65k word book.

I've said it, but never as well as David Didau and Martin Robinson just did. "Is there an 'engagement crisis' in schools? Why chasing 'fun' and 'relevance' could kill learning." daviddidau.substack.com/p/is-there-an-…

Sadly, the idea that people I categorise as ā€˜bad’ are punished for their badness is magical thinking Tbc: not advocating revenge.

If trying hard never works, why would you keep trying? Motivation doesn’t fuel success. Success fuels motivation. NEW - The economics of effort open.substack.com/pub/daviddidau…

David Didau Spot on David Didau ! When students see their own success, particularly doing something they’ve previously struggled with, you witness a ā€˜motivational switch’ being turning on. It’s truly a light bulb moment for them and they become eager to learn #literacy #learning #motivation
