Dear document authors: whilst you can be averse to something adverse, you cannot be adverse to something averse. And I definitely have an aversion to incorrect usage of said words.

Building clever hardware needs someone to build user-friendly software on top. If Intel can get NVIDIA users to adopt this software, then expose unique Intel h/w features through it, that might pull users across to Intel chips.

Flooding due to global warming is happening far faster than you might think: “Some scientists theorize that most of our low-lying coral-atoll nations may become uninhabitable as early as 2030.” Sobering and powerful from The Atlantic and @julian_aguon . theatlantic.com/culture/archiv…

Visited a Checkit office yesterday, and was pleased to see my #mentalhealth first aider certificate on a board. It's estimated that 1 in 6 people have experienced a common mental health problem in the last week: it's very common! #ItsOkayToNotBeOkay

If you're making hardware you constantly need to look at what's available off-the-shelf versus continuing to design your own. In software you can use others' OSS libraries and focus on what your unique value is: no different in the hardware space.

I'm mixed on this. If you have a preview of something then you get headlines with a cool codename (just don't use someone else's trademark!) versus "version 2.7.5". Worked for Ubuntu. But there has to be a version number at GA.

We used to believe in fully-specified functional requirements, up-front, for software. We now know that doesn't end well. What we now need instead are well-specified customer problems that teams can go and iteratively find solutions for.

Good read. "Twenty-five hundred years ago, the Greek writer Thucydides described the progress of civilization. It began, he said, when the Athenians ceased carrying arms inside their city, and left that savage custom to the barbarians."

Instant delivery start-ups are dying: is anyone surprised? Example: "Jokr, a New York-based grocery deliver venture, was reportedly losing $13.6 million on just $1.7 million worth of sales in 2021." techcrunch.com/2022/06/03/the…

Watched a Spitfire perform over Cromer pier: beautiful machine, and a stark reminder that peace was hard won not so many years ago.

I don't understand the rename. People read "How To Spend It" either because they have lots of money, or because they like to imagine how having it would be (just without hearing about celebrities' lives). Why pretend any different? Financial Times

Regularly receive spam where salespeople tell me they've made a video for me. Does anyone else have zero inclination to watch these (because they can skim read text far faster), or am I just not the target market?

Really looking forward to getting up to speed at IQGeo and playing a part in helping customers the world over build better fibre, electricity, and heat networks. Lots to learn, lots of people to meet, and lots of customers to become acquainted with!

Good advice from Amy Wheelus of Gigapower on how to move fast. When you have a goal of 1.5 million homes connected to fibre within 3 years, your really need to! #IQGeoMeetup
