I don’t care McDonagh isn’t really Irish. I don’t care Banshees traffics in cultural tropes. His movie is good and I like those tropes. I swear, you people approach art like it’s a high school debate competition. Drips, the lot of you.

Lots of people today repping School of Rock and its message of teaching kids to love themselves. And yet it doesn't stop there. It's even better. It teaches them that they can love themselves, and via collaboration and working together, excel in ways they couldn't individually

As someone researching spectatorship in commercial environments I think this is key. In Scare Haunts it's rarely the initial behaviour: it's the lack of negotiation. However some behaviours are knowingly destructive and the fog of fiction is used to deliberately traverse taboos

The Apparition and Soul Survivors stand out as the two horror films in my lifetime with wide cinematic releases that made fundamentally no dramatic, narrative, or even sensory or thematic sense Spliced together incoherently and rendered meaningless with edits that broke the plot

Being in PhD writing-up phase is like being hidden in a cake ready to burst out at a party, only you're waiting for the idiot who unnecessarily nailed you into the cake to pull you out. Except the idiot is also you. And you don't know what the party is or even if there is one.

Never was going to work Homogenous consumer experiences do not work. You can't control your audience's response to that degree Amazed they thought it would work given they're THE experts in this, and anyone who's produced a Xmas/H'ween event or Esc Room could've told them this

Surprise! I am delighted to say I'm going to be presenting at this wonderful conference tomorrow in the shoes of my dear friend Mike Holdsworth. I can't WAIT to talk about Satan. Whoops! I mean Santa. OR DO I?

The photo on the Cricket Australia match centre is of Ben Stokes, seasoned conman, welcoming a handsome young country lad, dressed up in his finest, to the big smoke and asking him if he’s had his wallet inspected yet. #Ashes

Looking forward to presenting at TAPRA this Thursday. Exciting moment and a great opportunity to hear about and speak to some great audience and popular culture scholars. #Tapra

Virgin Atlantic's current prominent 'I am what I am' advert, where they basically claim to have invented progressiveness... Is particularly odd in comparison with their 'Relax' ad 10 years ago, where they claimed to have invented the idea of hiring attractive people.

I can't recommend this read enough. An important riposte to the representation of Blackpool, the North, and the working class in London theatres in the year 2024. blackpoolsocial.club/45286-the-voca…

I'm in very late stage write-up and have hit the point of kind of enjoying it. I'm mostly saying this so that I can look back on it in a couple of months time and laugh at my momentary naivety.

I am delighted to say that I have passed my Viva with only very minor amends. Horror, and how people interact with it, has so much to teach us. I am looking forward to continuing to talk and write about it.

Really keen on linking with immersive retail and hospitality specialists. Excited about discussing the ontological differences between the "spectator", "participant" and "consumer". Participant seems to be right at the forefront now.

I think Silence of the Lambs is a good movie. But I prefer Manhunter and the Hannibal TV show by a significant distance and have never really understood the hyperbole surrounding SOTL and especially Hopkins' performance. I also much prefer 8mm and Frailty.
