Journalist and writer @gbahadur, author of 'Coolie Woman: An Odyssey of Indenture', agrees that people in all countries involved in this system should learn about the history and its legacy.

Gaiutra visited the Highlands in 2009 when she was researching her book. While she isn't aware of any direct familial links to the country, she says that 'as Indo-Caribbeans, as descendants of indenture, as Guyanese, we all have Scotland as a fatherland.'
