Honestly, I feel strange and maybe unprofessional when I cry at the end of vivas. But when I spend a bit of time telling the student what I loved about their PhD (years of work!) I just get so chocked up. Then I think, well maybe I'm just the Keith Brymer Jones 💙 of academia?
Gothicist on wheels, about to start my doctorate at Manchester Writing School - be honest, #PhD folks, how hard is it to access doctoral opportunities in a wheelchair? What has been great? What has been bad? Don't wanna freak myself out but I want to go in prepared. #phdjourney #phdchat
New paper that might be of interest to #CDS24 folks written with Ned & Harvey and based on NIHR School for Social Care Research funded studies: “Disabled people negotiate gender, sexual identity and self-directed social care support in England: how does choice and control operate?” bristoluniversitypressdigital.com/view/journals/…
A fab read: “…we disrupted survey methods and generated new insights into what matters to family carers….as well as the crucial role of co-production in this research.” By Prof Katherine Runswick-C Dr Martina Smith Prof Ryan & Chris Hatton #CDS24 bristoluniversitypressdigital.com/view/journals/…
Thought-provoking few days at the Centre for Disability Studies conference. It's been lovely connecting with people and I'd love to keep that going! I'm especially interested in chatting about: care; mistreatment; ethics; abolition; affect/emotions; queer disability studies #CDS24
FB advert from Alzheimer's Research UK “Dementia robs us of everything that matters. Our memories. Our connections. Our story.” Makes me feel quite sick with anger. My sister in law will meantime be enjoying her grandkids and probably off down the shops later today.
